Driverless taxis could ply Singapore’s streets this year

It’s long been understood that Singapore is (and likely always will be) one of the most forward thinking nations in the world, and they have never shied away from introducing new technology that improves the lives of their citizens.

Recently though, they have made news on the international scene by striking a deal with a US-based startup that is designing for them an entire fleet of automated taxicabs that will be operating on the streets of Singapore as early as the third quarter of this year.

This will be one of the largest rollouts of automated vehicles in recent history, and will be one of the most exciting experiments that any national government has move forward with in quite a while. The people of Singapore are very intrigued at the chance to have this new technology roaming their streets, though there are some apprehensions (which is quite understandable).

At the end of the day, the odds are pretty good that the people of Singapore will be able to make the very most of this technology – and if the experiment is successful, it should come as no surprise to anyone that other nations around the world start to roll out their own fleets of automated vehicles based off of this model.

The automated automobile industry is growing rapidly all over the world

Major US technology giants (including Google and Apple) have been working diligently on pioneering the world of automated automobiles, and the industry is growing rapidly across all corners of the globe – including right here in Singapore.

A number of firms and startups have been designing, developing, and innovating new technological solutions that will help usher in this new Age of Automation, creating the kind of automated vehicles and automated automobile services that many believed would always remain in the realm of science fiction.

Citizens and visitors to Singapore are going to have the opportunity to take advantage of driverless taxis starting in 2016

By choosing to partner up with a United States-based technology startup known as nuTonomy, the government of Singapore is leveraging incredibly advanced technology pioneered by some of the industry’s best and brightest – and they are also going to be able to begin rolling out this new automated taxicabs service on Singapore streets towards the end of the year 2016.

This is an exciting time in Singapore right now, as these new vehicles are going to be leveraging advanced electronic technology to produce low levels of greenhouse gas, lesson the environmental impact of the Singapore transportation industry, and improve traffic patterns across the country in ways that may not have been possible if the status quo was maintained.

The future of automotive automation is bright and growing brighter every year
It’s going to be very exciting to see how these new technologies develop over time, but as of right now the future of automotive automation looks very bright.

Look for this Singapore experiment to be a major step forward in the industry and likely one of those groundbreaking and historic moments that serves to usher in advanced technology for the rest of the world.
